Collective Worship

 

Collective Worship is an important part of daily life at our Voluntary Aided Church of England primary school. It is a time when children and staff come together to pause, reflect, and explore Christian teaching in a way that is welcoming and inclusive for everyone. Rooted in our school’s Christian foundation, Collective Worship helps us celebrate our values (see our rolling programme below), engage with Bible stories, mark key festivals, and consider themes that support pupils’ spiritual, moral, and personal development. While worship is distinctly Christian in character, it is always invitational—children of all faiths and none are encouraged to listen, reflect, and respond in ways that feel right for them. Through these shared moments, we strengthen our sense of community and nurture the wellbeing and growth of every child.

We follow a weekly timetable as follows:
  • Monday- Mrs Armstrong leads Worship.
  • Tuesday- Mr Boyle and Mrs Walls take turns to lead Worship on alternate weeks. 
  • Wednesday- Worship is in class.
  • Thursday- Worship is led by the Year 6 Worship Team which they plan and deliver independently.
  • Friday- Celebration Worship where we celebrate the week's successes.
IsingPOP is a wonderful part of our daily Worship, where we sing together joyfully, with actions. 
 
From time to time, pupils plan and present an initiative called "Dream Big Worships" about a subject that is their passion and they want to share with the school community. Pupils often work together in teams on this, planning the entire worship by themselves. 
Recent Dream Big Worships topics have been:
  • David Attenborough
  • Dolly Parton
  • Gymnastics
  • Endangered Animals
  • Tigers
Open the Book visit us regularly throughout the year and tell bible stories through role play with the support of Worship Team.  
Collective Worship takes place at 2.40pm every day, providing a calm and consistent moment for our school community to come together. Holding Worship at the end of the afternoon works particularly well, offering children and staff a peaceful space to pause, reflect, and draw the day to a thoughtful close.
