UNICEF World Children's Day Pop Up Festival
20th November 2019
This year UNICEF celebrated World Children's Day by encouraging people to participate in Pop Up Festivals focusing on emotional literacy. Our School Council was very excited by this idea and helped to organise our first Westbury Pop Up Festival.
Our festival took place in school on World Children's Day. We invited parents and governors to join us in a variety of activities designed to help us think more deeply about our feelings and emotions and to reflect on how our Westbury values and vision help us to flourish.
Class 1 took their Pop Up Festival out to Wellie Wednesday and enjoyed three activities out in our Forest School area. They learned how to do calm breathing by using material to imagine an angry and a calm sea. They went on a feeling walk to explore how they may feel in certain situations and they took some quiet time to notice the nature around them and create some natural mandalas.
Class 2 and 3 worked together in their House Groups playing games to help broaden their emotion vocabulary and joined in a number of creative activities to celebrate people who are special to them.
We all had a lovely afternoon learning more about how to notice and understand our emotions. It was wonderful to be able to share our learning and experiences with parents and friends. Thank you to everyone who joined us.
