Key Skills

Religious Education at our school aims also to develop the key skills that children will need so as to engage in meaningful Religious Education and explore religion and belief. These key skills are expressed as the following:

  • Investigate
  • Interpret
  • Reflect
  • Evaluate
  • Empathise
  • Analyse
  • Synthesise
  • Apply
  • Express
  • Discern

RE also encourages the development of:

  • Self-awareness
  • Respect for all
  • Open-mindedness
  • Appreciation and wonder

Of course, Religious Education does not exist in isolation to the other subjects we teach at Westbury, as they contribute significantly to the impact that Religious Education has on the life of learners at school. For example, the literacy skills that learners are taught are applied in many and varied ways so as to enhance the learning experiences learners have in RE; through role-play, poetry, reading for meaning and forms of writing. Artistic skills are used to give learners the opportunities to express even deeper, their own thoughts and feelings of concepts covered in Religious Education.
